Because the world has gone a bit crazy, it is the right time to de-stress and to raise your spirits. Also, as an introvert, I feel a slight urge to do some good and to take care of our extroverted people (on the ‘other’ side, I might say) and make sure they know how to function. I would like to share a few tips that help me decrease my anxiety levels and make me feel better. It’s the little things that we have forgotten due to our busy lifestyle. Some might seem a bit odd and some quite obvious. Nevertheless, I hope that everybody will find something new to try or something long lost.
1. Walking barefoot on the linoleum, carpet or anything textured (except broken glass)
2. Light an aromatic candle (salt candle lamp) or whatever you fancy
3. Make a cup of tea/coffee and snuggle up with a good book or a movie
4. A good time to take care of your ‘external layer’ (your body). Take a bath, put a mask on and scrub your body.
5. Before taking a bath you can create your own playlist to match your current mood (an optimistic one, please) P.S: Don’t drown your phone – that wouldn’t be a mood improver, I can imagine.
6. Play a board game and make one evening without the internet. It might not be a great idea for short-tempered people. However, it could be fun (a wee bit dangerous, though).
7. Buy a plant and take care of it. If it’s too much for you buy a cactus. They are grateful, silent martyrs that survive (almost) anything you put them through.
8. Isolation doesn’t mean you have to lie on the couch all day. Try some yoga, stretching or body weight work out.
9. This one is a tiny one. Just change your bedsheets and enjoy the fresh linen.
10. Use some glow-in-the-dark stickers and be creative. It’s like a flashback to your carefree childhood. You can create a night sky in your bedroom, although everything in moderation.
11. Buy an eye catching colouring book and spend some time coloring.
12. Declutter your space. Now it’s the time to sort out the things you don’t need or use. Trust me you will feel lighter and your concentration will improve (if you need it).
13. This one is not for everybody but knitting is a good thing to calm you down if you are restless. Even if your creation is a hideous looking scarf you can give away to somebody you don’t like very much.
14. I’m a Taurus and I love food. For me this is a good time to cook a wholesome nutritious meal. Knowing that I’m doing something beneficial for my body is a good feeling and I can share it with the people I care about.
15. Learn something new. There are a lot of online courses which can teach you something new. So pick one that is close to your heart.
16. Draw a picture. It could be a portrait or a landscape. It can be black and white or colourful. It’s up to you.
17. Write a short story or a book. Well, it depends on the length of the isolation, either short story or a saga.
18. If you feel extremely stressed out then I suggest you try listen to the song Weightless by Marconi Union. It has been composed to reduce heart rate, anxiety and blood pressure. Personally, I would not call it a song, just a sound mixture, but that is not important, if it does the trick.
19. Create a playlist of soothing sounds. For me it’s the sound of rain and birds in the background but it could be a thunder or the ocean as well.
20. Don’t forget to let some fresh air in. It might sound obvious but you would be surprised.
