Neil Gaiman - American Gods

Writer's picture: SusanSusan

Shadow, made a mistake three years ago, and when he is released from prison he finds out that his beloved wife has just died in a car accident. On his way home, feeling empty and dead inside, he meets mysterious Mr. Wednesday who offers him a job as an errand boy. Shadow suspects the whole thing to be a bit shady but he doesn't have any life to go back to and being still crushed by his loss he reluctantly accepts. Bit by bit he starts to see the bigger picture- the world of fallen Gods, who strive not to be forgotten, versus the Gods of the Modern Era who desire to be the only ones. A storm is coming and Shadow finds himself in the eye of it.

I couldn't put it down I didn't mind the discomfort of the bedsore body parts from the long read.

This is the first book in a few years that got my whole attention and prevented my mind from wandering. I was captivated and enchanted by the book. I completely lost track of time while reading it and when I finished it I felt like somebody has flushed my toys down the toilet.
