Santiago is a young shepherd who has given up studying to travel the world. On his journey he experiences a recurring dream and after meeting a strange traveler he decides, unlike most people, to follow his heart and find the lost treasure from his dream. He sells his herd and sails from Spain to Egypt to find the pyramids where the treasure is buried. Soon the seeking gets dangerous and Santiago has to learn to listen to his heart if he wants to succeed.
I think that most people learn a lot when others go wrong and when you can step back and see the bigger picture.
This story skillfully shows how we bend before fear, how we kill our dreams and how we give up before the finish line.
Nowadays, we tend to follow our eyes and listen to reason but we completely leave the heart out. This book is not a ground breaking novel but gently polishes what we are slowly forgetting – how to listen to our hearts.
