The human mind can be a very confusing place. Sometimes we get angry or frustrated and we feel like we have lost control. The Chimp Paradox explains where the negative emotions come from how to address them and change your mind’s settings to your advantage. Peters explains that part of our brain is controlled by a “chimp” and another part by a “human”. When anxiety or stress kicks in the chimp takes over and deals with the situation accordingly. The way the chimp behaves is not always desirable. Peters shows examples of how we hijack our efforts and goals in everyday life and then he offers solutions to tame the chimp.
I would put The Chimp Paradox into the top 5 self-help books everyone should read.
It’s written for the general reader so everyone can understand it easily. It has helped me to shed some light on how my mind works, how to treat it to get the most out of it, and what responses to expect in stressful situations. But you still have to do the work though…
