Stephen King - Outsider

Writer's picture: SusanSusan

A gruesome murder of a ten year old boy is committed in a small city. All trails lead to a kids baseball coach Terry Maitland. His fingerprints and DNA are found all over the crime scene. The policemen have all the evidence they need. The investigating detective Ralph Anderson, breaking with protocol out of spite, has the coach arrested in public during a baseball match of his team. Despite the evidence, Maitland claims his innocence. In addition, the suspect presents a bulletproof alibi. At the time of the murder was in a different city and would have had no time to make it back. The detective is left confused by the contradiction. On one side, there are witnesses who saw Maitland in the home city. On the other, the coach was at a book event in a different city all day. The detective’s job and reputation is at stake and due to the public arrest the case of Terry Maitland is in the limelight.

I’m glad the master of horror is back. After his ‘unhappy’ Sleeping Beauties when I started to question his talent he has presented a book worthy of his qualities.

I had moments when I didn't want to go to sleep in a dark room and was on edge at the slightest noise out of the ordinary.
